SaaP vs. SaaS: Digital Signage Software Delivered

Visix offers AxisTV digital signage software as both SaaP (Software-as-a-Product) and SaaS (Software-as-a-Service). It’s important that you understand the differences and advantages of each.

SaaP (Software-as-a-Product)

This is the traditional way of buying software – you pay a fee for the entire software package (either software only or pre-imaged PC solution) and host the hardware on your local network.

The advantages and disadvantages are the same, but which category you put them in depends on your preferences: local responsibility for hardware purchasing and maintenance, local management of anti-virus and firewalls, local backups and IT staff requirements.

SaaS (Software-as-a-Service)

Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is a software distribution model in which applications are hosted by Visix and made available to clients over a network, typically the internet.

The advantage to SaaS is that the entry cost is low because you don’t have to purchase the hardware. However, organizational policies, firewalls, etc. can become an issue over large distributed networks. And, since delivery is based on internet connections, if web service is down, the signage system is down.

Which model works best for your organization will depend on the scale of your deployment, how many people will be contributing content, and what kind of IT resources (hardware and staff) you can dedicate to your digital signage system. Speak to a Visix consultant to determine what’s best for your environment.
