Display Device Management & Control

This integrated device control solution
embeds Simtrol's OnGuard technology into Visix's Web-based content
creation, management and delivery application. Through a custom tailored
interface, Visix administrators can now manage the content being
delivered and the display devices showing the message.
The advantages of combined Visix and Simtrol technologies eliminates
the challenge faced in virtually every digital signage implementation to
date - the inability to control and monitor endpoint displays. By
automating shutdown in off hours, you can reduce the total cost of
ownership of digital displays and extend their life. Assurances of
content delivery is greatly improved, with email notification for
display problems and reports to verify endpoint displays were on during
scheduled times.
Display
Device Control Specifications
Running on a Visix Content Server, Simtrol’s device control
application enables IP based device control and management capabilities
through a custom tailored interface. Visix application administrators can remotely
monitor, control, schedule and diagnose displays and other devices.
Visix licenses device control to the individual display and not the
Channel Player. Channel Players have no communication
relationship or interaction with device control components.
With the Simtrol application on the Visix platform, the solution can
easily expand to other devices. Optionally, users can add Simtrol’s
OnGoer device control product to provide local control for any device
via touch panels, LCD monitors or other displays.

Control Codes
The most reliable device control protocol is RS232. Some devices must be
controlled via an IR (infrared) interface. Though Visix recommends devices
utilizing RS232 control protocols, IR control is available for a nominal
up charge. Simtrol maintains a growing library of device control codes
on file at
www.simtrol.com/reseller. You must be a registered
Simtrol reseller to access this library. Alternatively, contact a Visix
representative to confirm whether or not the device you need to control
is on file.
If the control codes are not on file, Simtrol will either acquire or
learn the codes and write the source for the user. Programmers may need
access to the device via the Internet during the process. Clients should
allow 10 business days for coding and debugging.
Software
Maintenance
With the purchase of the device
control option your will receive a software license that does not
expire. However, Simtrol recommends that its software be covered by a
maintenance program that entitles the customer to receive software
updates and telephone support. If the client purchases a
Software
Maintenance and Support Agreement (SMA) from Visix to cover the Content Server, the same agreement covers the device control components.
If a client chooses to add device control after they purchase the
Content Server and associated SMA, there is a $30.00 per display charge
to roll the displays into the Content Server SMA.
