Classroom
Control System Line Discontinued by TEi
August 30, 2006
ATLANTA – TEi (Tech
Electronics, Inc.) announced the discontinuation of its long running
InSight Display, Keyboard and Mouse (DKM) sharing hardware line. The
technology enabled computer classroom instructors to control the routing
and management of display, keyboard and mouse signals. As a result,
computer classrooms became more efficient and students often retained
more of the information presented.
After 20 years and the
delivery of more than 25,000 workstation interfaces around the world,
the demand for the technology declined to a trickle and decidedly
rendered it obsolete. It was determined that the costs to modify or
re-engineer the core components exceeded possible returns.
The predecessor to the
InSight line was first introduced in the mid-1980’s under the brand name
Tech Commander. When the Oracle Corporation adopted the Tech Commander
product as the standard for its ILT classrooms in the United States, the
subsequent recognition helped propel market acceptance and solidified
TEi’s position as a leader in the technology segment.
The Tech Commander
morphed into the InSight line in 1997 with industry standard video and
data cables and the introduction of a graphical user interface running
on both AMX and Creston touch panels. The marriage of the InSight
product with recognized environmental control systems provided resellers
with additional value-added opportunities and users with the ability to
control virtually every aspect of the computer classroom environment.
"InSight supported
training and instruction in a wide range of applications, from training
mechanics on jet engine repair to database administrators
on implementing Oracle software. The product consistently provided a
combination of performance, reliability and ease of use that set the
standard for both hardware and software based solutions,” stated Trey
Hicks, Vice President of Sales, TEi. “It has been exciting to be
involved in the entire life cycle of the InSight product line," added
Hicks.
“The company began to
shift its focus from the DKM market in 2004 to concentrate on its
rapidly growing visual messaging and digital signage lines,” explained
Sean Matthews, President, TEi. “This is the final step in our phased
approach to migrate from hardware to pure software development. In just
24 months, the company dramatically improved the feature set of its
flagship line, AxisTV and introduced two new lines – MeetingMinder™ and
MessageBlox™,” furthered Matthews.
TEi (Tech Electronics, Inc.) develops
and supports dynamic visual messaging and distribution technologies for
use in corporate, education and government applications. For more than
25 years, TEi has created applications and products that are engineered
with precision and simplicity of design, assuring high performance,
reliability, and the utmost in efficiency and functionality.
