Discontinues Catapult™ Hardware Line
January 9, 2007
ATLANTA, GA — Visix, Inc., a dynamic visual messaging
software firm, announced it has discontinued its last remaining hardware
line, Catapult™.
The Catapult™ product was designed specifically for
instructor led training in computer classroom environments. The
technology enabled instructors to share their computer displays with an
entire class by replacing local desktop video with video from the
instructors PC. Instructors used a series of membrane switches
configured into a mouse pad to control what students viewed. Video
signals were routed through a series of transmitters and receivers via
UTP/CAT-5 cable to individual student PCs. Catapult™ relied on
dedicated cables to eliminate any network bandwidth requirements.
Though the technology has remained popular in high-end
graphics applications, price erosion in the projector market and
improvements in network transmission reduced the value of the product in
the broader market.
“This decision allows our organization to further refine
its focus on developing and supporting scalable visual messaging
applications,” stated Sean M. Matthews, President, Visix, Inc. “We are
one of the few leaders in this space and are now positioned to channel
100% of our energies into furthering the broader adoption of this unique
communications approach,” Matthews continued.
The company will continue to support existing Catapult™
products and installations in accordance with the published warranties
associated with respective components.
Visix has been migrating from hardware to software
development over the past two years. The organizational shift is part
of a larger corporate strategy to deliver a suite of visual messaging
software products bundled with a wide range of services. Visix will
continue to bundle and support its software with third-party hardware in
those instances requiring integrated solutions.
Visix, Inc. designs, develops and supports a suite of
software applications that allow users to create, import and manage
their communications from anywhere and to deliver those messages to
virtually any endpoint.
The company offers a
digital signage application, a room and event scheduling solution, and
applications for targeted messaging to portable devices. Each of these
products works independently or can be integrated for scaleable
deployments from a single display to large networks. This comprehensive
approach to on-time communications – from concept to delivery –
provides turnkey systems including software, hardware and distribution
accessories, as well as multi-tier support options to manage and
maintain dynamic visual communications.
