Then and Now: The
Advantages of Upgrading
By keeping your AxisTV
system current with the latest software releases, you gain new features
and access to optional capabilities that provide new ways to import,
create, manage and deliver content. The following are just a few
examples of new features in recent releases or planned for future
releases of AxisTV:
Admittedly, most new
AxisTV features and capabilities come directly from client requests and
our own research into future technologies. Upgrading to the latest
software version provides more and varied methods to communicate your
message in order to retain viewer interest. It also improves your
opportunities for effective messaging as your audience continues to
become more sophisticated in their communication methods.
If your current version
meets your needs and additional features aren’t warranted, you should
still consider the system advantages of software upgrades. Most upgrades
provide new tools to make system maintenance and software upgrades
easier, which translates into less downtime for your system and less
utilization of precious IT man-hours. Future thinking is critical -
generally, upgrades from a more recent version are smoother than from
older versions, especially when a major revision is released (such as
AxisTV version 6.0. or the upcoming 7.0).
Hardware upgrades are
recommended to support software upgrades in order to prevent slow or
degraded performance sometimes seen in transitions, crawls and video
playback. In addition, Content Servers and Channel Players need to
support new operating systems (we currently support XP Professional and
Windows 2003 Server) used to underpin system operation. New hardware not
only ships with the latest software version already installed, but we
offer services to migrate customer data for a smooth transition.
At Visix, we work hard
to ensure that upgrading either software or hardware components can be
accomplished with minimal disruption of communications. Minor software
upgrades are straightforward and are often accomplished from the Content
Server without having to reconfigure each Channel Player, as may be the
case with a major release or long-overdue upgrade.
Software Maintenance &
Support Agreement (SMA) clients enjoy the benefit of automatic software
upgrades for both major and minor releases.
The Visix
Hardware Trade-In program allows SMA customers with legacy hardware to
upgrade their components at a greatly reduced cost. Clients without an
SMA can purchase an agreement to take advantage of this program.
