Crowne Plaza Buckhead: Wowing the
Crowds

Crowne Plaza Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia is
using Visix messaging systems to wow their clients and guests with
innovative, dynamic content. The facility hosts a non-stop stream of
prestigious clientele for hotel stays, meetings, conventions and social
events. In this busy, specialized environment, current information is
not a luxury – it’s a necessity.
Two years ago, Crowne decided to
dramatically improve the appearance and delivery of guest information by
upgrading their reader board system. They decided on a digital signage
system using AxisTV and are now running a scalable Content Server with
the Professional application managing and delivering content to remotely
located displays throughout their venue.
“AxisTV
has brought our hotel into the technology age. It allows us to compete
with larger convention centers because the sophistication of the system
overwhelms customers on our sales tour. They have confidence in the
professionalism they see,” says Thomas DeSousa, General Manager.
Crowne has
a total of thirteen displays using the AxisTV messaging system. A
prominent 42” plasma in the lobby runs a single bulletin with an
informative ticker below, and also shows news programs. “The system gets
away from traditional non-personalized reader boards,” continues DeSousa.
The hotel uses MeetingMinder™ products to deliver electronic event schedule information
to nine panelPC room signs mounted outside each salon door with
architectural covers painted to match the door frame trim. The remainder of
the digital signage displays are strategically placed in ballrooms and prefunction space to keep clients updated.
Crowne uses tickers and
multiple content blocks with unique play lists to keep their digital
signage exciting. Content includes welcome notices with client logos,
event and hotel information, room schedules, news and announcements, and
a popular “Company of the Month” program. They employ the AxisTV
Schedule Display Option to create and manage event schedules and one
Channel Player includes the Video Window Option for overlaying live or
pre-recorded video.
The
hotel has turned their AxisTV system into a profit center, charging a
nominal fee to run commercials and special content for event customers.
“It’s also
phenomenal for social events,” continues DeSousa. “We put up welcome
bulletins, photos and sometimes play videos for weddings and parties.”
In the next twenty-four
months, DeSousa hopes to expand their digital signage system to the
concierge floor, restaurant and elevator cars.
Crowne also has a
Software Maintenance and Support Agreement in place for servicing and
upgrading their messaging
system,
but haven’t had to make much use of it. “The late hour service has been fabulous, but we really haven’t
had many problems with the system,” says DeSousa.
“It’s awesome. It’s a
great system.”
